    Ingredients

    • 1 1/2 lbs cod fillets
    • 6 tablespoons butter
    • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon table salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
    • 3/4 teaspoon ground paprika
    • lemon slices
    • Herbs, parsley or cilantro for garnishing

    Method

    • Prepare cod fillets by patting dry with paper towels
    • Cut cod fillets into evenly sized portions if needed
    • Season both sides of cod with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and ground paprika
    • Set cod fillets aside at room temperature for 5–10 minutes
    • Slice lemon into thin slices, reserve for garnish
    • Chop parsley or cilantro, reserve for garnish
    • Place a large skillet over medium heat
    • Add 4 tablespoons butter to skillet and let melt completely
    • Once butter foams, add cod fillets gently to the skillet
    • Cook cod undisturbed for 2–3 minutes until lightly golden underneath
    • Carefully flip cod fillets using a fish spatula
    • Add remaining 2 tablespoons butter to the skillet
    • As cod cooks, use a spoon to baste melted butter over fillets for flavor and moisture
    • Continue cooking 2–4 minutes until cod is opaque and flakes easily with a fork
    • Carefully transfer cod to serving plates
    • Spoon pan butter over cod fillets
    • Garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro
    • Serve with lemon slices on the side
    • Present immediately for best texture and flavor
