What Is It?
Trouts are closely related to char and salmon. Lake trout, and other trout variety, live mostly in freshwater streams and rivers, while some, like the steelhead, a coastal trout variant, can last two to three years at sea before heading back to freshwater for spawning. Trouts are a member of the char family (Salvelinus), which also includes salmon. They are all classified as oily fish. Trout is not only an excellent source of protein and omega 3 fatty acids, it also is a delightful treat all year round.
