    • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • Vegetable oil, for frying
    • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
    • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
    • 2 tablespoons minced onion
    • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
    • 1/4 teaspoon dried dill weed
    • Salt and pepper to taste

    Method

    • To prepare Clam Fritters with Tartar Sauce, begin by draining the canned clams and setting them aside.
    • Mix the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and pepper in a medium bowl.
    • Add the beaten egg and water and mix until a thick batter is formed.
    • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add enough vegetable oil to coat the bottom of the pan.
    • Scoop the batter into the pan, using a spoon to form small fritters.
    • Fry until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
    • Transfer the fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
    • To make the tartar sauce, mix the mayonnaise, relish, onion, lemon juice, and dill weed in a small bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    • Serve the fritters with tartar sauce.
