    Ingredients

    • 2 herring fillets
    • 1 cucumber, peeled and diced
    • 1 onion, diced
    • 2 tablespoons of vinegar
    • 2 teaspoons of sugar
    • 1 teaspoon of mustard
    • 1/4 teaspoon of pepper
    • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
    • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
    • 1 tablespoon of fresh dill, chopped

    Method

    • Step-by-Step Method: Herring and Cucumber Salad
    • Rinse herring fillets briefly under cold water and pat dry with paper towels
    • Cut herring fillets into bite-sized pieces and set aside
    • Peel cucumber, then dice into small, even cubes
    • Dice onion finely
    • In a bowl, combine vinegar, sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper
    • Whisk dressing mixture until sugar and salt are fully dissolved
    • Add vegetable oil slowly to dressing, whisking vigorously to combine
    • Place diced cucumber and onion in a large mixing bowl
    • Add herring pieces to the bowl with the vegetables
    • Pour dressing over salad ingredients
    • Gently toss all components to evenly coat in dressing
    • Sprinkle chopped fresh dill over the salad and gently mix again
    • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed
    • Transfer salad to a serving dish or individual bowls
    • For plating: shape salad into a neat mound, then garnish with extra dill sprigs on top
    • Serve chilled or at cool room temperature for best flavor and texture
    • Pairs well with rye bread or boiled potatoes on the side
