Begin by preparing the mussels. Scrub and debeard them, then set aside.
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.
Add the garlic and tomatoes, and sauté for a few minutes until the garlic is fragrant and the tomatoes are softened.
Pour in the white wine and bring the mixture to a simmer.
Add the mussels, cover the pot, and cook for 5-7 minutes, until the mussels have opened.
Discard any mussels that do not open.
Add the chopped basil, season with salt and pepper to taste, and serve.
