These baby octopus arrive whole, cleaned and gutted – ready to cook straight from the bag with no prep needed. Sourced from Thailand, each 1kg pack contains roughly 40-60 individual octopus, making them easy to portion for starters, sharing plates, or a main course.
Baby octopus is better eaten young. The flesh is naturally tender with a smooth, slightly sweet seafood flavour that toughens quickly if overcooked. Keep the heat moderate – a quick grill, flash fry, or gentle braise is all they need to stay soft and chewy rather than rubbery.
Nutritionally, baby octopus is high in protein and low in calories compared to most meats. It’s also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and vitamin A – nutrients more commonly associated with oily fish like salmon or mackerel.
Works well in a wide range of dishes: salt and pepper baby octopus, grilled octopus salad, tempura, sushi, stir-fries, or braised in a tomato and white wine sauce. Pair with a crisp New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, or a bold Cabernet Sauvignon if you want red.
