A 160g tray of broiled eel fillet, sliced in 8g pieces — pre-cooked Japanese-style unagi kabayaki, dipped in the umami-rich soy-mirin-sake-sugar sauce and grilled over open flame the traditional way. Fully cooked, just heat to serve. The Japanese-restaurant-counter unagi at home.

How to serve

  • Unagi nigiri (the classic): warm one slice, drape over a small ball of seasoned sushi rice, tie with a nori band.
  • Unadon (rice bowl): warm slices over a bowl of seasoned sushi rice; drizzle with extra kabayaki sauce.
  • Maki rolls: use as a filling with cucumber and avocado.
  • Salad: serve cold over mixed leaves with citrus dressing.

Reheat: 2–3 minutes in a low oven, a covered pan with a splash of water, or 30 seconds in the microwave. Pair with chilled sake or a dry Riesling.
