Sushi nori — the dried, roasted seaweed sheets that wrap maki rolls, hand rolls (temaki) and gunkan-maki. The essential pantry ingredient for any home sushi night. Crisp, paper-thin and packed with the unmistakable umami of cultivated seaweed.
How to use
- Maki rolls: place a sheet shiny-side down on a bamboo mat, spread sushi rice, add fillings, roll tightly.
- Inside-out rolls (uramaki): rice goes on the outside, nori inside.
- Temaki: hand-rolled into a cone with rice and fillings — the easiest format for first-time sushi cooks.
- Gunkan-maki: wrapped around a rice oval to hold tobiko, sea urchin or salmon roe.
- Snack: torn into strips and toasted over an open flame.
Storage
Keep dry; once opened, store in an airtight container in a cool dry place. Do not refrigerate — moisture turns nori soft.
